At 33 meters (110 ft.) long and 10 meters (33 ft.) wide the MV Amba accommodates a maximum of 22 intrepid divers looking for some of the most pristine and action packed diving available in the Indian Ocean. She offers 1 Deluxe Suite, 9 Standard Cabins, and her design is ideal for oceanic voyages. The Amba is the first and only Maldives liveaboard to operate in the exclusive area of Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atolls in the northern most regions of the Maldives. The northern reaches of the archipelago are the most isolated and as a result the area is an underwater wonderland whose potential is just now being discovered. With one complimentary nitrox dive per day and pristine dive sites what more can you ask for?

Your adventure will begin with a magnificent journey by seaplane from Male to Hanimaadhoo where you will be transferred to the Amba for 8 days of the best diving anywhere on the planet. The seaplane flight alone makes the trip on the Amba a cruise not to be missed. Be one of only a few to visit this outstanding area of the Maldives. A Dive Adventures Asia Action Packed Top Pick!

Deluxe or Standard?

With 10 comfortable cabins in two configurations everyone is assured they will have plenty of space and a good nights sleep onboard the Amba. The cabins are located either on the upper deck or the lower deck and have picture or porthole windows for added natural light. The upper deck Deluxe Suite and Standard Cabins both offer sweeping panoramic views as an added bonus!!

MV Amba Offers Two Different Types of Cabins: 1 Two Bedroom Deluxe Suite (sleeps 4 with 2 bathrooms), and 9 Double / Twin Share Standard Cabins (sleeps 2).

Each Cabin Features:

The Deluxe Suite is made up of two very spacious rooms which are combined into one suite to accommodate up to 4 people. This suite is ideal for a family or friends who need some addtional space and want a bit of privacy. There is a private door with access to a sundeck on the front of the liveaboard. This is a great place to get away from it all and get some alone time.

The best value on the Amba are the Standard Cabins as they are quite comfortable, en-suite, and very spacious for a liveaboard at this price point.

Entertainment, Dining, and Common Areas

To cool off in the afternoon between dives the interior air-conditioned saloon is the place for you. There is a video and entertainment system for your use, and a library of marine and general interest books. On the upper deck there is large partially covered area, with tables and chairs for enjoying a morning sea breeze or a cocktail in the evening. For even more open space and improving your tan lines head up to the upper most deck and enjoy a nice lounge chair and a magnificent view of the Indian Ocean. This deck offers choices for sun or shade, is huge, and is a great place to catch up on an afternoon nap.

The indoor air-conditioned dining area is where you will enjoy a piping hot breakfast in the morning, after your first dive, and where your delicious freshly prepared dinner is served in the evening. Meals are provided buffet style and consist of delicious local and international cuisine with influences from Europe, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and India. Coffee, tea, and drinking water are all free of charge. Eat and drink as much as you like as you will need your energy for the world class diving.

The saloon is also where your will find a full service bar that has a great selection of local beer, spirits, and wine available at a reasonable cost. Cakes, biscuits, and crisps are also available for purchase throughout the day.

Dining Features:

The chef will cater to vegetarian diets upon request.

Your Own Private Dive Dhoni

Diving activities are conducted from a comfortable dive dhoni which will accommodate all 22 divers. The dive dhoni is accompanied by a captain and dive staff. The dive dhoni is a fully functioning diving vessel that will provide fast and safe transfers to all the dive sites. All dives are guided, and to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 ft.). As most of the dives in the Maldives are deeper than 18 meters (60 ft.), in moderate to strong current, it is recommended that divers complete the Advanced Open Water Course prior to arrival or have equivalent diving experience.

The dive dhoni has been designed with comfort and convenience in mind. There is plenty of area for suiting up and loads of storage space for your personal equipment. Each diver will be assigned his or her own station and your gear will remain set up during the entire cruise. Tanks are filled at this station, so you never have to worry about moving your equipment except to get in the water, and the caring crew will help you with that. Personal gear will be stored at your individual station. Cameras are stored apart from your personal gear on a special camera table. There is a fresh water shower a the rear for a quick rinse after the dives. Nitrox diving is available!

PADI Dive Courses and introductory dives are available upon request.

How to Get There: With so many international air carriers flying directly into Male, the capital city of the Maldives, there is no need to book your liveaboard trip as part of a package deal and pay hidden fees. The most cost effective way to dive the Maldives is to pick a liveaboard of interest and then book your flights directly to Male.

There are direct flights from Europe, Asia, and the United States. If your flying from the U.S. the most direct route is via Singapore.

As the Amba departs from Hanimadhoo once you arrive in Male you will need to catch your domestic flight to Hanimaadhoo Domestic Airport. The flight can be arranged very easily online with Maldivian Aero.com. The liveaboard schedule of the Amba is Saturday to Saturday. After a fabulous seaplane ride to the northern reaches of the Maldives Archipelago you will be greeted in Hanimadhoo and transferred to your liveaboard. Its that easy!

MV Amba Maldives Itinerary

The itinerary of the Amba is meant to deliver the best diving of the Northern Maldives within the time allotted for the liveaboard cruise. Her schedule will consist of 8 Day / 7 Night cruises to the best dive sites of the Northern Maldives: Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atolls. All Amba liveaboard cruises will depart from Hanimaadhoo harbor.

Sample Itinerary

Day of Boarding (First Day on the Amba)
Arrive Male International Airport by a morning or early afternoon flight, catch your domestic flight to Hanimaadhoo Airport. Pick up and transfer from the airport by speed boat or dive dhoni (depending on sea conditions the boat ride takes about 10 minutes). You should try to arrive Male before 12:00 as there are a couple of flights in the afternoon to Hanimaadhoo. If you have an earlier or later flight pick up is possible all day long on the day of arrival.

Diving Days (Depending on the length of the Cruise)

Day of Departure ( Last Day on the Amba)
Morning breakfast and gear packing, then transfer by boat to the Hanimaadhoo Domestic Airport to catch your flight to Male International Airport.

Note: This does not represent an exact itinerary, it is approximate only. Every cruise is different. Itineraries depend on current conditions, time of year, weather, captain, cruise director, and guest preferences. We do our best to put you at the best sites possible on every dive.

We take no responsibility for scheduling or itinerary changes due to changing weather, political situations, natural disasters or other events beyond our control. We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance for any kind of trip you do anywhere in the world. We also recommend that you have DAN or other diving accident insurance up to date and current in case of an unanticipated evacuation or other treatment that may not be covered by your regular insurance.
